NEW & IMPROVED
SINGLE COMPONENT DESIGN! This Outdoor Next-Generation D Active Dummy Cell
Battery is used to replace a real D battery in outdoor products that use one or
more D batteries. It has an 11" long thin flat flexible cable (FFC cable)
with an IP66 rated 5.5mm x 2.1mm female barrel socket with M12-1.75 screw
threads at the end. This barrel socket
will work with the IP66 rated 5.5mm x 2.1mm male barrel plugs with M12-1.75
screw threads on our Outdoor Battery Eliminator Kits and Accessories (Outdoor Power
Splitter Cables, Outdoor Power Extension Cables and Rechargeable Solar Panels). A weatherproof seal is created by compression
of the rubber o-ring on the mating connector (male plug) when the connectors
are firmly screwed together (refer to illustrations). The
connector on this cable will mate with regular (non-weatherproof) 5.5mm x 2.1mm
DC barrel connectors (male plugs), but the connection will not be weatherproof
(water and dirt). This Outdoor Next-Generation D Active Dummy
Cell Battery will work by itself or in conjunction with our Next-Generation D Passive
Dummy Cell Batteries and the appropriate power source such as our Rechargeable
Solar Panels or an Outdoor Power Adapter to eliminate expensive batteries that
are constantly having to be replaced. Please read the detailed discussion and

This Outdoor Next-Generation D Active Dummy Cell Battery is one component of an
overall Outdoor Battery Eliminator solution which consists of an Outdoor Next-Generation
D Active Dummy Cell Battery (this component), our Next-Generation D Passive
Dummy Cell Batteries (part number D-PASSIVE-DUMMY-NG - quantity depends on the
number of regular batteries required by the outdoor electronic device), and a
suitable DC power source such as our rechargeable solar panels or an Outdoor AC
to DC Power Adapter (the DC output voltage depends on the number of batteries
used by the outdoor electronic device). The tip/inner
conductor of the barrel socket goes to the (+) terminal of the Next-Generation
Outdoor D Active Dummy Cell Battery, and the ring/outer conductor of the barrel
socket goes to the (-) terminal of the Outdoor Next-Generation D Active Dummy
Cell Battery. This internal connection
is needed to complete the circuit necessary in the outdoor electronic device
when used in conjunction with one or more Next-Generation D Passive Dummy Cell
Batteries.
This Outdoor Next-Generation D Active Dummy
Cell Battery is the same size as a real D battery, so it fits in one of the
battery spaces in the battery compartment. It doesn't matter which space it
goes into as long as the correct polarity is still observed as with regular
batteries. The FFC cable can easily be run around the rubber gasket found on
most waterproof outdoor battery compartment covers, so the original battery
cover and rubber gasket can still be used.
Since most rubber gaskets are compressible, a tight seal will be
maintained between the FFC cable and the battery compartment cover, so the
waterproofness of the battery compartment will still be maintained.
As an example application, suppose you want to eliminate 2 x D batteries in an
outdoor electronic product such as a motion activated light. You will need 1 x Outdoor
Next-Generation D Active Dummy Cell Battery (this component), 1 x Next-Generation
D Passive Dummy Cell Battery and a suitable DC power source such as one of our
Rechargeable Solar Panels or an AC to DC Wall Power Adapter. Since each regular D battery supplies 1.5VDC,
2 x D batteries will supply 3VDC, so you would need a DC power source that can
supply a voltage around 3VDC (3.3VDC is also acceptable).
As another example application, suppose you
want to eliminate 4 x D batteries in an outdoor electronic product such as an
animal deterrent. You will need 1 x Outdoor Next-Generation D Active Dummy Cell
Battery (this component), 3 x Next-Generation D Passive Dummy Cell Batteries and
a suitable DC power source such as one of our Rechargeable Solar Panels or an
AC to DC Wall Power Adapter. Since each
regular D battery supplies 1.5VDC, 4 x D batteries will supply 6VDC, so you
would need a DC power source that can supply 6VDC.
SPECIAL NOTE: This new and improved OUTDOOR
RATED (IP66) Next-Generation D Active Dummy Cell Battery eliminates the need
for the 2-component solution used in the original first-generation OUTDOOR
RATED (IP66) D Active Dummy Cell Battery resulting in a higher reliability
solution. The original first-generation
version is constructed of an OUTDOOR RATED (IP66) AA Active Dummy Cell Battery
that slides into a AA to D Battery Converter Shell. Since this new and improved next-generation
design is a single component, you don’t have to worry about the Outdoor AA
Active Dummy Cell Battery falling out of the AA to D Battery Converter
Shell. It also means not having to worry
about the positive (+) terminal of the Outdoor AA Active Dummy Cell Battery
making good contact with the internal positive (+) terminal of the AA to D
Battery Converter Shell.
NOTE(S):
· This is
not a real D battery and will not power an electronic device on its own. It
needs to be used in conjunction with the other necessary components that make
up a complete Outdoor Battery Eliminator solution as discussed above and
depicted in the included diagrams.
· The blue
Outdoor Next-Generation D Active Dummy Cell Battery case is not IP66 rated and is
intended for use in a sealed battery compartment.
· The thin
flat flexible cable (FFC cable) and the 5.5mm x 2.1mm female barrel socket with
M12-1.75 screw threads are both IP66 rated and can be exposed to the outdoor
elements after the FFC cable runs through the rubber gasket on most waterproof
outdoor battery compartment covers.
· Please
make sure the mating connector used with this Outdoor Next-Generation D Active
Dummy Cell Battery has M12-1.75 screw threads.
M12 specifies the diameter of the threads as 12mm (refer to
illustrations), and 1.75 specifies the pitch of the screw threads as 1.75mm and
is the distance between threads in mm (refer to illustrations). If the mating
connector does not have the same thread diameter and the same thread pitch,
then the screw nut on the mating connector will not work, and the rubber o-ring
on the mating connector will not be properly compressed which is necessary to
create a weatherproof seal. The connector on this cable will mate with regular
(non-weatherproof) 5.5mm x 2.1mm DC barrel connectors (male plugs), but the
connection will not be weatherproof (water and dirt).
